Smart Strip 1 HD has been the paint remover of choice among historical restoration and lead restoration professionals for over 25 years. The Smart Strip HD system is an environmentally friendly method for removing up to 30 layers of oil-based lead paint in one process. Ensure no airborne lead dust is generated by keeping the lead paint wet during the process. In addition, the product contains lime, which has a stabilizing effect on lead and can reduce the transportation and disposal costs of the waste. The product is formulated without flammable solvents and emits no toxic fumes, so only minimal ventilation is required. Smart Strip 1 HD is also excellent for removing old coatings from detailed, carved or molded surfaces.
The original paint remover – since 1981
The Smart Strip 1 HD system contains an alkaline paste that is distributed on the surface to be removed. The pasta is then covered with the patented Dumond Laminated Paper to control evaporation. Allow the paste to sit on the coating for 12-48 hours depending on the number of layers and type of coating to be removed. After a suitable exposure time, the paste and softened paint can be removed with the paper and a scraper/spatula. Any excess paste can be removed with a damp sponge or pressure washer. Finally, the surface is neutralized using Citri-Lize™ neutralizer.
Product description and application
The Smart Strip 1 HD system is an environmentally safe method for removing up to 30 coats of paint from most surfaces in one pass (i.e. wood, brick, concrete, stone, stucco, plaster, cast iron, steel, marble and fiberglass). See also point 4 (page 3) in the brochure. The Smart Strip 1 HD® system includes paint remover paste, application tool, Dumond Laminated Paper and Citri-Lize™ neutralizer. The Smart Strip 1 HD paste is distributed/sprayed onto the surface to be treated. Then cover the area with Dumond Laminated Paper, which controls evaporation. The paper remains on the surface until all the paint has dissolved. Paste and paint stick to the paper during removal. The treated surface is then washed with clean water and subsequently neutralized with the new Citri-Lize™ product included in the package (for instructions see technical data sheet for Citri-Lize™). The Smart Strip 1 HD system is suitable for intricate, carved or molded surfaces and is recommended for historic restoration and other projects involving lead paint removal.
Benefits of lead paint removal
(1) Dumond Laminated Paper keeps paste and paint wet/damp, preventing lead particles from coming into contact with the air or the environment, and (2) when Dumond Laminated Paper is removed, the majority of paste and leaded paint is left behind and can be easily disposed of.
